IN-PARK SIGNAGE
Building off of my themed entertainment experience, I was responsible for large-scale signage projects at the Fort Worth Zoo. My responsibilities spanned various stages, from generating concept drawings and creating mock-ups in Photoshop to producing construction sheets and collaborating with vendors for production and installation. Throughout this process, I developed the ability to work on numerous signage projects simultaneously, and took the lead in crafting creative pitch decks. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to contribute my skills and creativity to these endeavors.
Gateway concepts, directionals, and marquees
Predators of Asia
& Africa
As the lead designer for the Predators of Asia & Africa expansion, I spearheaded the creation of all signage for the project. This encompassed conceptualizing gateways and directional signs for the exhibits when they were titled Hunters of Africa and Asian Predators, as well as designing marquees and directionals for the final iterations. To ensure authenticity and respect towards the cultures depicted, I conducted extensive research on the regions we were showcasing. My aim was to celebrate the people who coexist with these magnificent animals, and I approached the design process with a deep appreciation for their rich heritage and environment.
Front gate concepts & final elevation
Entrance Gateway
In response to the Board of Trustees' request for a new gateway to serve as the main marquee at the front of the zoo, I presented several concept options in different styles for consideration by our co-chairmen. I also included variations that incorporated new lamp posts to illuminate the path. After one concept was chosen and modified, I created a detailed scale elevation sheet that to be used by our architects to model and construct the gateway according to the approved design.
Marque concepts, mockups, and installation
World of Primates & Tropical Aviary
Early on in this role, I was responsible for designing a new marquee for the entrance of our World of Primates indoor habitat. This project required replacing the existing wooden sign and incorporating the new tropical aviary addition. After presenting numerous concepts, the final design of the marquee draws inspiration from the wicker shields of the Bantu Tribe, adorned with patterns reminiscent of Kuba cloth commonly found in Central Africa. The sign also includes a wooden plank supported by aluminum pipes wrapped in a fabricated rope to create the illusion of a hanging sign. I was involved in every stage of the process, from conceptualization to on-site installation, ensuring seamless execution of the design vision.
